Enjoy a tour inside the College the next day and it will reveal lavish examples of Spanish Renaissance design, from murals depicting Greek myths to Tiffany stained glass and Austrian crystal chandeliers. At night, the campus will afford glimpses of 19th century resort lifestyle as conceived by Henry Flagler: Soaring rotundas give way to hidden paths and secret benches in what was originally the Hotel Ponce de Leon.

Get energized by a gourmet English breakfast the next morning and immerse yourselves in the Spanish and British Colonial architecture of downtown. Navigating close byways and low buildings, you'll find yourselves transported, surrounded by wrought iron balconies and Joaquin edifices, Moorish exteriors and Victorian gardens. Fountains large and small, full of glittering pennies-turned-wishes, posed next to delicate statuary's and wood-shingled cottages. Chocolatiers and wine purveyors set up shop next to domestic villas with opulent fences.

Amelia IslandAmelia Island, florida, beaches, beach, romantic getaways
It's Florida with a deep South accent. It's thousands of acres of coastline, covered with gnarly, old live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss. You cross little footbridges across wild, windswept dunes to get to impossibly wide Florida beaches. Arrive at night and taste the salt in the air. Snuggle in as the crashing of waves slips ever so gently into your dreams. The romance is in just being here. You could do nothing, but you won't. Amelia Island will entice you into her arms like a long-lost love.

You can sink into the polish and glamour of the AAA Five-Diamond Ritz-Carlton (800-241-3333, www.Ritz-Carlton.com), or the more laid-back luxury of a villa at Amelia Island Plantation (800-874-6878, www.AIPFL.com), overlooking one of Florida's most gorgeous golf courses, the golden marsh or the ocean. Just down the road is historic Fernandina Beach, a quaint 19th century shrimping village, where hundred-year-old inns share the cobblestone streets with couture boutiques, fine art galleries and touristy-tasty chocolate shops.

For a romantic getaway adventure, go on an "owl prowl" with a naturalist from Amelia Island Plantation's nature center; stroll the grounds of Florida's oldest plantation once farmed by slaves (Kingsley Plantation, circa 1884); go horseback riding on the beach.

To tantalize your taste buds, do the Blue crab - boiled and brought to your table to crack, at The Crab Trap, or more elegantly served in haute cuisine presentations in the resorts. Shrimp - boiled, fried, stir-fried, and grilled with exotic spices.

St. George Island, Fl
St. George Island, Florida beaches, Florida Keys, Amelia Island, St. Augustine, Key Largo, IslamoradaUndulating white dunes and golden sea oats, just the two of you, and miles of sand, blue-green sea and sky. Tucked between uninhabited islands and protected national seashores on Florida's northwest curve of the Gulf of Mexico, St. George Island has no traffic lights and the largest "high rise" is only three stories tall.

You can get cozy in an Old Florida cottage wrapped in verandas, or luxuriate in a six-bedroom Mediterranean mansion drenched in marble Jacuzzis, libraries and billiard rooms, extravagant sound systems and massive expanses of glass, fully stocked right down to the crystal champagne flutes.

Enjoy the pleasures of the Sunrise over the Gulf and sunsets on Apalachicola Bay. Bicycling, kayaking and boat trips to nearby Dog Island and remote St. Vincent National Wildlife Refuge.

Apalachicola Bay is the oyster capital of the South, maybe the world. Shrimping is a close second. You get to help the captain pull in the nets and sort the catch, and afterward, if you're lucky, he'll steam up a massive pot for you right on board, served with cold beer and Cajun red sauce. The salt marshes are surreal at dawn, and dolphins cavort around your boat on the moonlight charter.

You'd hardly call it dining, but it doesn't get any better than the succulent fried oysters, seafood and down-home country cookin' at places with names like "That Place on 98" and the Red Top Cafe (850) 653-8612). Kick it up a notch at Tamara's Cafe Floridita (850) 653-4111) or discover surprisingly sophisticated cuisine at Chef Eddie's Magnolia Grill.

Cabbage Key beaches Romantic Getaways, florida, beaches, Florida Keys, Amelia IslandEverybody takes a day to "do lunch" on Cabbage Key, Fl (239-283-2278), famous for its rustic island bar with a quarter of a million dollars worth of dollar bills stuck to the walls. Instead of autographing it like hundreds before you, pen your proposal before taping it to the wall. Nobody does Key lime pie better, and Cabbage Key's cheeseburger is so good they swear it inspired regular guest Jimmy Buffett to write a song about it.

For a rustic romantic getaway, head straight for Cayo Costa State Park (800-326-3521) where the tiny one-room cabins come with basic bunks and outside shower-heads. Bring: your own linens, food, CD player (with fresh batteries) and skewers for roasting marshmallows. Enjoy: stunning white sand, shell-strewn Florida beach, solitude.

Sanibel IslandSanibel Island
The famous shelling paradise that's more than 50 percentwildlife preserve, has dreamy inns and old fashioned beach cottages. I like Song of the Sea (800-231-1045), a romantic and intimate European style inn at the lighthouse end of the island.

This is surely not all there is when searching for a Florida Romantic Getaway! With a little imagination and searching on the Internet, you will find many more incredibly romantic destinations. There really is something here in Florida for everyone!

Salvador Dalí Museum

The DALI Museum….it's a MUST SEE!

Visit the world's most comprehensive collection of works by the late Spanish surrealist. Come see why the Michelin Guide gave us the only "Three Star Rating on Florida's West "Coast!

The Salvador Dalí Museum is the permanent home of the world's most comprehensive collection of the renowned Spanish artist's work. Compiled by the A. Reynolds Morse and Eleanor Morse over a 45-year period, it is celebrated for its 96 oil paintings.

With oils spanning from 1917 through 1970, the collection provides an excellent overview of Dalí's major themes and symbols. Characterized by its diversity, it includes the Impressionist and Cubist styles of his early period, abstract work from his transition to Surrealism, the famous surrealist canvases for which he is best known, and examples of his preoccupation with religion and science during his classic period.

In addition to the 96 oil paintings, the collection includes over 100 watercolors and drawings, 1,300 graphics, photographs, sculptures and objects d'art, and an extensive archival library. Periodic rotations of the collection and special exhibitions allow museum goers to view new work on repeat visits.

The museum, in it’s current state, will be open for another few years until their new museum opens in 2011. The new structure will be bigger, with more works of art, and the building itself will be a work of art based on Dali’s unique approach to art. With Dali's surrealistic art you can take a number of meanings from each piece and apply them to your own life. Living in metaphor is something Dali does very well.
