Florida Beaches

Best Florida Beaches!

As the only state with two coasts and 1,200 miles of magnificent beaches, Florida beaches are a dime a dozen, it’s no wonder Florida has one to please every visitor, a Florida beach can be a little bit of heaven on earth!

Long before the world’s most famous mouse and a host of other characters took up residence here, Florida reeled in hordes of visitors to bask in the sun and splash in the surf. They’re still coming to pitch their umbrellas on our sandy shores, and who can blame them? Those who visit Florida and Miami Beach travel to enjoy the azure surf and unforgetable palm beaches that are like nowhere else on earth. From the Florida Panhandle beaches to the Florida keys to a nude beach favorite of supermodels, the amazing Florida beaches have it all!

Some of the top beaches in Florida are on the East side of the state. This is where you’ll find Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Daytona Beach. Daytona Beach is known for its open and uncluttered beaches, Fort Lauderdale offers a Florida beach community that is great for those who love to stroll on the beach or lay on the sand, and the Miami beaches have to be experienced, to believe.

Florida beaches are ranked among the best beaches in the U.S. for beauty, accessibility and facilities by “Dr. Beach,” Stephen P. Leatherman’s famous list of top 10 beaches. Each Memorial Day weekend, Dr. Beach, issues his annual list of the Top 20 Beaches¬† and our Florida beaches usually ranks in the best top ten list. In 2009, two of Florida’s beaches made “Dr. Beach’s” list of top 10 beaches, Siesta Beach in Sarasota came in #2 and Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne came in at #8. Florida beaches that have been previous top ten winners are:

Dr. Beach:
The way Dr. Leatherman began rating the nation’s beaches and how he became affectionately named “Dr. Beach” is an interesting story that had its beginning in childhood. What is especially interesting is that in a few short years, he has turned his passion into a legend, and he has become practically an icon.

Dr. Leatherman has been a coastal scientist with 30 years of international experience studying storm impacts, erosion and way to improve beach health. He is Florida International University’s director of the International Hurricane Research Center and the Laboratory for Coastal Research. The weather center is also home to the National Healthy Beaches Campaign founded by Leatherman.
